[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Because developing competences is what we have in mind, evaluation plays a key role, but a role that is completely different from labeling, conditioning,, comparing and motivating students through punishment and reward.<\/span><\/p>\n

Any little progress or effort towards growth is seen and celebrated. The Babel Teacher has strategies for identifying what the student can do, rather than what he\/she can not do. The teacher knows what is the zone of proximal development of every child.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3404″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Independent work and direct observation<\/b>
\nContract work and project-based work are both times when the student can work independently (alone or in a group). During this time the teacher notices students\u2019 initiatives, their concrete actions, attitudes and abilities. Thus, the feedback is personalized, given at the right moment and has a goal of helping each child develop in situations that prepare him for life outside of school. Our feedback includes hints and suggestions to improve not only subject-related competences but also communication, collaboration and critical thinking skills. <\/span><\/p>\n

Self-evaluation and peer feedback<\/b><\/strong>
\nNot only do teachers learn to observe every step made on the way to competence. Children are often asked to appreciate and evaluate their own progress, but also to observe positive actions of their peers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Formative and summative evaluation<\/b>
\nUntil 4th grade, marks are expressed as letters and are\u00a0 the result of formative evaluation, showing the progress made, the involvement, perseverance and the attitude regarding learning.\u00a0<\/span>
\nStarting with 5th grade, we use a process of formative but also summative assessment on every , showing the acquired level of the competences we are aiming to obtain. The team of teachers has designed clear standards of performance so that students can understand and participate in the evaluation process. They can furthermore set their own objectives upon the completion of any assessment.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nOur students participate in all the national evaluations and also, if they choose to, they take international exams like Cambridge (for English), OSD (for German) or DELE (for Spanish).
